The Gloucester Fold

Sunday 1 November 2026 · 36 items · 4 min read

The week's news is the council one: the government has confirmed Gloucestershire's single authority can go ahead after its pause, and a minister said Gloucester will not lose its city status in the shake-up, which one councillor says he feels relief about. Both pieces are in what's going on, alongside the council leader's demand for answers on devolution. Away from the county offices, Thursday is Bonfire Night and the fireworks round-up covers the county; Saturday has Devon at the Guildhall, a lantern workshop at the museum and the girl choristers' tenth anniversary evensong; and Sunday is Remembrance, with the county service at the Cathedral in the afternoon.

Weather

A dry, settled week with nothing much in it: rain chances stay low from Monday right through to Sunday, never higher than about one in seven, and every day stays close to a normal November. Afternoons sit around 10 to 12°C, Tuesday the mildest, with nights between 4 and 8. Thursday evening, Bonfire Night, looks dry under a light breeze, so the displays shouldn't be fighting the weather. The breeze drops to calm from Friday, and Saturday brings the coldest start of the week at 4°C, so a proper coat for anything early, then much the same for Remembrance Sunday.
